When someone says ‘Summer’ - the beach, sunshine, friends, bonfires and carefree living is usually what comes to mind. But as soon as you land that 9-5 desk job, your ideal summer image seems like nothing more than a daydream.
The corporate world isn’t very into the idea of working from the beach.. I mean from home - and ‘summer Fridays’ are usually far and few in between. AKA by the time August hits, I’m still not too sure about what the sun looks like and my skin is as white as the paper stacked to the sky on my desk.
As someone who has only worked in this type of environment, I didn’t have any idea there was an alternative.
In case you’re new here and have no idea what I do outside of SPIESFitToFight.com, I’m a full-time graphic designer.
At least, that’s what I would’ve told you until this past August. I went to college for graphic design, I was working in the field of graphic design for 3 years - it was essentially all I knew.
When I was offered a position this summer involving ZERO graphic design responsibilities, I started FREAKING out. The job involved all of my favorite things that I currently handle with SPIES. I never had any formal marketing training, I never went to school or got a degree on website design and I most certainly didn’t think my copywriting abilities were up to par to actually put that I was a writer in a job description.
This opportunity - needless to say - was so far out of my comfort zone. Regardless, I jumped on the offer and haven’t looked back since.
I entered into the creative agency world, where everyone is ambitious as myself. We all have side hustles and are constantly dreaming and doing. Everyone respects each other and acknowledges the aspect of life outside of the office. It’s a world I didn’t think existed.
Stepping outside of my comfort zone has pushed me to new limits.
Hidden talents were found and the confidence in my work that I originally struggled with is rapidly rising.
I want you to look inward on your own life. It’s already September and 2017 is creeping up on us. What did you tell yourself at the beginning of the year?
Have you managed to achieve the goals you set back in January?
It’s time to kick your butt into action, my friend.
Leave your comfort zone behind and chase the dreams you didn’t know existed. Find your passion and ride the waves until you see where it can take you.
The fall is a beautiful time, not only because of the changing foliage, but because everyone realizes they need to light a fire under their ass if they are going to complete a project by the end of the year.
Reading this, you have the advantage. Your one step closer than everyone else to reaching new heights.
Here’s a worksheet to help you manage your mind if you’re not sure what you should focus on.
If you’ve been looking for permission to take the leap, this is it!
