The Science Behind Affirmations

Your thoughts are quite literally changing your reality with every passing minute. If you’ve ever taken a glance into a self-help book, I’m sure you’ve come across the idea of affirmations and intention setting. It sounds so simple that it must not be true! That’s what I believed for the longest time, that’s what my friends and family still believe, and it’s what I know you’re contemplating to be fact or fiction at this very moment. Here’s the thing - there’s actual hard evidence, real scientific proof behind the power of affirmations!      Which means you can go throw out your ‘there’s no scientific-proof’ arguments and listen up. By dictionary definition, to “affirm” something means that you are declaring it to be true. When using affirmations in your daily routine, you are helping to reprogram the subconscious mind to be more in alignment with what you consciously want in your life.

I am ready for a change.

I am ready to step into my power and let Source Energy work its magic.

I am ready to go back to the root of my existence.

I am ready to live in love at all moments of the day.

I a ready to write a New York Times Bestselling Book.

I am ready to lead a nation of women.

I am ready to ensue my purpose and in doing so I will help you find yours.

I am ready and willing for massive, radical change to take place.

I am ready to be financially abundant.

I am ready to take on this mission.

I have finally understood that my prayers and my wishful thinking were not working because I was not fully committed. I wanted to be fully committed, or better yet I wanted to want it.

But the time is now. I am ready.

I am aligned spiritually, mentally, physically, and energetically.

And I am READY to make a change in this world.

Massive, radical, life altering change!

What’s holding YOU back right now?  Is it the fear of inadequacy or is it the fear that you don’t truly want something but instead you want to want it?

Are you trapping yourself by self-loathing, in acute or massive proportions?

Does life seem to be treating you unfairly for as long as you can remember?

What do you think is causing this?

The answer - as hard as it may be to comprehend, right now - is your thoughts.

Your thoughts are quite literally changing your reality with every passing minute.

If you’ve ever taken a glance into a self-help book, I’m sure you’ve come across the idea of affirmations and intention setting.

If you’re looking at me with furrowed brows right now, I’m assuming it’s because you’ve tried this affirmation thing before. Maybe for a day, a week, hell maybe you even gave it TWO weeks!

But lemme guess, you didn’t see instant changes and you gave up, discredited the idea of affirmations, and fell right back into the rut of ‘My life sucks and I can’t do anything to change it.” - Am I right?

The more the affirmation is repeated, the more your subconscious mind is being programed to believe the thought as truth.

The repetition is creating new neural pathways within your brain.

When you only ‘try affirmations’ for a few days, there is no possible way for a dramatic enough change to occur that you would notice it.

In our culture, we’ve come to believe that you can do anything in 30 days.

Start an exercise plan, get on a diet, cut out sugar, etc. I know you’ve seen the diets and the plans out there that claim to get you in shape in only 30-days. Thirty days is how long it takes for a habit to form (or be released). But that’s habitual learning, not new neural pathways forming within your brain! That takes more time and more effort. It takes relentless dedication.

In ancient Hindu culture they would use mala beads during prayer (when chanting their affirmations) to count and keep track of how many times they chanted their mantra in Sanskrit. They would chant their mantra at least 108 times every day.  Which, in my opinion is much more dedication than turning the other way when you see a cookie! (Just saying…)

The Sanskrit language isn’t based as much on meaning as it is on vibrational energy. What I mean by that is, every word carries it’s own universal vibration. When a Sanskrit word is spoken, the vibration of the word becomes even more powerful as it comes from within the body as a vibration into the physical world as a stronger vibration.

I found this to be very interesting - but, back to science!

There are studies that show every thought you conjure up, creates a chemical. When you have a happy thought or lots of happy thoughts, your body produces chemicals that make you feel happy. When you have negative, angry, or fear-based thoughts, your body produces chemicals that enhance that feeling of fear, anger, or sadness.

I’m assuming these chemicals created by thought cycles works similarly to my antidepressants. My medication makes more of the neurotransmitter, serotonin, available in my brain when taken. Which I believe is what happens in a more indirect way when we constantly think positive thoughts.

If there are any scientists reading this, I’d love for you share your wisdom in the comments!

For those of you who are new to the idea of affirmations, I’ve listed a few of my favorites below...

I am open and ready to receive.

I love myself, I respect myself, and I accept myself exactly as I am.

I love the life I have while I create the life of my dreams.

I am an energetic match to all that serves me, to all that makes me a better person, to all that makes me feel happy, fulfilled, and to all that leads me down the path of my highest good.

After you repeat these affirmations 4-5 times, you may begin to feel your vibration rising. Stay committed to the practice of reciting affirmations every day and I promise you, your life will start to reflect these thoughts.

Please share your favorite affirmations in the comments below. You never know who may need to read exactly what you have to say.
